Valley Fox, a lifelong Buddhist, paints large abstract and deeply sensual flowers. She believes the flower by its very nature is symbolic of impermanence, of spring, and of beauty. Because of its shape the flower is an image of the center and hence an archetypal image of the soul. For the alchemist, the flower was symbolic of the work of the sun, the giver of life. According to Valley, flowers are life itself and accompany us through every aspect of our existence. They are part of the joyful celebration of birth; they keep company with altars; they are a healing companion for the sick; they lead the way at weddings and dress tables of celebration; they are given to express hope, yearning and passion; and finally they honor the dead and comfort those who mourn. Flowers are the mystical adjunct to human communication. They speak for us, filling the gaping mouth when given with meaning that human words and emotions cannot express. They open the eye and expand the heart.I paint flowers to lengthen their life on canvas so that their color, complexity, and mystery may enrich the hearts of others. Legally blind as a child, Valley was encouraged to paint and at a very young age studied oil painting with Judy Dupic in France. She holds a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine, Accupuncture and Bachelors in Nursing. She also works as a cardiac ICU nurse. |
