Artist Statement:
"I can give no isms for this “work”. As an unwitting observer of the implications intrinsic to objective metaphoric observation of the phenomena of stuff, I have delved into the stratification of powers, relatively capable of being isolated by relationships of symbols depicting that otherness that they seem not to be. When two diversely intended meanings are compressed, the result is a paradox."
Bio:
1960's. Studied painting, drawing and advertising design at the Chicago Academy of Art, and the Art Center College in Los Angeles. Served in U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis & Vietnam War. Art Director & Designer in NYC advertising agencies: Doyle Dane & Bernbach, Smith Greenland and Spade & Archer.
1970's. Published editorial illustrations (10 year span) at The New York Times, NYC. Studio work included The Portrait Series; 365 self-portraits. Abstract Gestural Series; 200 graphite drawings.
1980's. Freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Studio work included Jamaica Series: paintings & drawings. Surrealism Series: paintings & illustrations. New York Skyline Series: paintings & drawings.
1990's. Traveled in Spain & England, collected found objects and continued to develop the Small Works Series; 75 pieces. Moved to the Catskill Mountains, continues painting, drawing, sculpting and … fly fishing.
